Homeland and Defense Rhode Island’s Defense ecosystem, including traditional defense businesses and dual-use companies, provide invaluable support to the Homeland Defense and Security of Rhode Island and the United States.
Homeland Defense, or “The protection of U.S. sovereignty, territory, domestic population, and critical defense infrastructure against external threats and aggression, or other threats as directed by the President. The Department of Defense is responsible for homeland defense.” DoD Homeland Defense Integration Guidelines, is achieved largely through military means. Rhode Island companies throughout our defense ecosystem serve as critical Tier 1, 2, and 3 suppliers to the United States Military. Additionally, many of our defense sector businesses support key Rhode Island’s key contractors, including General Dynamics/Electric Boat, Raytheon, L3 Harris, and Anduril to support homeland defense efforts within the Land, Air, Maritime domains, provide Defense Support to Civil Authorities (DSCA) and to enhance border Security by providing products and services in support of these efforts.
