October 3 at Innovate Newport event aims to increase business opportunities for R.I.-based Diverse Suppliers
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – On Thursday, October 3, SupplyRI will host a day of education and networking opportunities in an effort to increase business opportunities specifically for women- and minority-owned business enterprises. SupplyRI is the State of Rhode Island’s business-to-business program that pairs local small businesses with the state’s largest ‘anchor’ institutions.

owing our economy requires commitment and collaboration between stakeholders such as large institutions and small businesses, the private sector and the public sector,” said Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor. “We are pleased to see the SupplyRI program take root in the community and expand opportunities – with a focus upon minority- and women-owned enterprises.”
The event day will feature multiple opportunities for small businesses to learn new tactics, expand their network, receive an overview of supplier diversity certifications, and increase their business opportunities. Sessions include a hands-on learning experience, 1:1 coaching, and a 90-second “Greet & Pitch” session with representatives from anchor institutions.

Governor Raimondo announced the SupplyRI initiative in her 2018 State of the State Address. To date, 14 institutions have signed on as Anchors in the effort. The Commerce Corporation is creating a comprehensive database of local suppliers and will provide support services for employers and suppliers, including networking events and information sessions on procurement.
