Municipal Liaison

Statement of Duties

RI Commerce is seeking a Municipal Liaison to join a dynamic team of mission-oriented professionals. This position provides an opportunity for an experienced professional to work directly with Rhode Island’s cities and towns to facilitate, support, and track economic development projects across the state.

Essential Functions

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with city and town officials, councils, and local economic development staff.
  • Act as a liaison to help municipalities move projects forward. Coordinating resources, addressing challenges, and supporting execution.
  • Maintain a centralized system to track economic development projects statewide, monitor milestones.
  • Prepare regular progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with state agencies, nonprofits, and private-sector partners to align local initiatives with broader regional economic goals.
  • Provide guidance to municipalities on funding opportunities, best practices, and compliance with applicable state/federal requirements.
  • Represent RI Commerce at municipal meetings, public hearings, and community events to promote economic development initiatives.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for issues arising during project planning and implementation, ensuring proactive solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Problem-Solving: Serve as a point of consultation for issues arising during project planning and implementation, ensuring proactive solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience working with municipalities, community stakeholders, economic development agencies, or public policy initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional projects and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Rhode Island’s municipal structures and economic development landscape is highly desirable.
