Senior Economic Development Advisor
Dan Jennings works closely with the Secretary of Commerce Stefan Pryor and Commerce Corporation President Jesse Saglio to execute real estate and economic development transactions that revitalize urban cores and grow jobs in Rhode Island. He currently leads a number of special projects and initiatives, including efforts to build an innovation ecosystem around the state.
Dan has more than 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur, and as a real estate and economic development professional. Prior to joining the corporation, he spent five years in Newark, New Jersey, first as the SVP for real estate with the Brick City Development Corporation and, most recently, as deputy mayor for economic development. In those roles, he helped spearhead $3 billion in new investment, including new offices, hotels, warehouses, and residential and retail projects throughout the city. Prior to his tenure in Newark, Dan was director of development at Thor Equities, a New York City-based real estate investment and development company. There, he managed several large development projects in New York City and Houston. Before joining Thor, Dan was a senior associate with K. Backus & Associates where he consulted with universities, private developers and government agencies on public-private development projects. Dan has also held senior positions with a community development corporation, served as the Queens Borough president, and worked with the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
Dan received his BA in economics from New York University and his MS in urban planning from Columbia University. He is a member of the International Council for Economic Development, Urban Land Institute, International Council of Shopping Centers and American Planning Association.
