Nicholas Autiello (Nick) is the Senior Economic Analyst for the Executive Office of Commerce and the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation. In this role, he advises the secretary of commerce and the governor’s office on implementation and messaging of key, job-creating economic development initiatives.
Nick brings with him both a private-sector and public-service background. He held several positions at a tech startup in Washington, DC, as well as senior positions on campaigns in Florida and Montana, and he was deeply involved in higher education policy at the state and federal levels as a student in Florida. He has joined several official delegations abroad, including the first-ever American trade mission to Gibraltar.
He volunteers with the Dorcas International Institute — working with refugees from conflict zones — serves on the Next Generation Committee at Trinity Repertory Company, is a member of the New Frontier Network at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, and is working on a biography of late Rhode Island Governor and U.S. Senator John O. Pastore.
In 2016, he was nominated for Best Actor in Community Theatre for his portrayals of the Balladeer and Lee Harvey Oswald in Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins. An avid runner, he was born and raised in Cranston, attended LaSalle Academy and lives in Providence’s Federal Hill neighborhood, where he is working on the restoration of a historic home.
Nick holds a graduate degree from the London School of Economics and a BA from Florida International University, where he served as student body vice president of America’s fourth-largest university. He also attended the Chinese Language Program at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
